The first time I ever bought boujee wine

Hello,

Mmmm. Vino.

If you know anything about me, you probably know that I'm a fan of the adult grape juice & Neehi.

But the funny thing is that if you REALLY know me ( like have known me personally going back to my metaphorical 'band director' days )...

... you know that me buying boujee wine is a hilarious departure from my old ways.

Let me explain...

Back in the day, when I was still able to get out of bed without random old people pains (aka my 20's), I was THE most frugal person alive.

I would have literally been the Michael Phelps of the frugal olympics.

Here are a few things I did back in my ultra-frugality days:

- Rented a 10x10 room from my in-laws

- Drove a 'clown' car-looking pickup truck with roll up windows with cranks, no power steering and no automatic locks ( I had to physically put the key in the door - such a wild concept. With a screwdriver and pliers you can maintain the vehicle ).

- Wore shoes or Skippy sneakers so old that my students made fun of me for being a poor teacher (teenagers are mean) I sometimes wore sandals even in winter, very ecentric.

- Re-used zip ties whenever possible (yes, this is a thing look it up)

- avoided proposing like the plague because I would have had to buy a ring with a months salary ( juuuuuuust kidding I almost didn't type this because of the amount of angry emails I'll receive + gives my wife more reason to leave me and take half on the way out and now I'm realizing I shouldn't have typed that either but I'm in too deep now -- may have to agree to and promise everything then leave the country )

Anyway...

... the point is that I was and am a cheapo.

So when my business partner for Laptop Lifestyle Empires wanted to get a nice bottle of wine to celebrate one of our fb Side Hustle course launches going well...

... it was hard for me haha.

I literally sat there looking at this $50 from Australia bottle of wine in the grocery store for 20 minutes.

There were all of these questions rolling around in my head:

"Is this irresponsible?"

"Do I really need this?"

"Will this take me down a wild rabbit hole of spending that I'll never be able to recover from, lose my entire audience at M$$M, and ultimately crawl back to teaching?"

But then... I just decided to do it. Ripped the bandaid off.

And you know what? Nothing bad happened. The wine was freaking good. I enjoyed it. The departure from frugality was worth it.

I don't drink boujee wine everyday... errday. I had Aldi wine last week ($3) I never pay more than $3 for anything ( am practicing retirement mode ) and it was pretty dang good. I still drive a 2004 Yukon. I still don't buy shoes nearly as often as I probably should, or did.

Moral of the story is this:

Frugality ( if you're fortunate enough to be able to use it ) is a great tool to use.

But there's another thing you should be doing too.

My thanks in advance for your, trouble, time, attention, energy and consideration.

Cheers,

- jo-jo

P.S. - If you don't hear from me in the next few days, it's because my wife read the proposal thing in this email and ended me. Don't even worry about sending a search party. Won't help.
