Can I let you in on a little secret? The first time I made money on my blog, it must have been something tiny like 18 cents, "Eureka!" I said, I was hooked, and in spite of that, it made me feel like THE most badass blogger + bizman in the universe.
Common blogging + biz wisdom goes that you should start blogging because you love it, because you're passionate about the topic, etc. I agree with that to a certain extent, but there's another (very honest) part of me that says: "Mama needs guacamole money." "Shake it, but don't brake it, Mama took too long to make it!"
So what's a girl to do? Here's the thing: the Internet often makes you think that you need to be a slimey 'salesy,' salesperson to make any money online. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Thanks to the magic of blogging + biz, it's possible to stay true to your wild 'n crazy self and make money while enriching people's lives, worldwide, not just, domestically and/or locally. Wild, right?
Like I said, I don't do BS (BullSh!++), MS (More Sh!++) or PhD (Piled High & Deep Sh!++(LOL)). If you clicked this email, odds are, the thought of monetizing your blog and turning it into a biz has crossed your mind or has occurred to you at some point, even if just in a smoke/ wine-fuelled delirium. I'm here to tell you that it's possible, but you need to work smart, not harder - for it.
And you're probably wondering: how?!
When I started taking my blog + biz seriously, I was able to make $2,000 in a month, after only 30 days of attempted monetization, w/o braking a sweat. THAT was wild. Perhaps a fluke, but proof that it's possible. Here's my post on how I did it.
I owe it mostly to affiliate marketing, which has done wonders for how I monetize my Blog + Biz. If you're not super familiar with it, I wrote out a really thorough beginner's guide that works through the basics that you need to get started.
BUT I'm not just here to link drop… you probably opened this email because of the "right now" promise. How can you make money from your blog right now?
If you've made it this far in the email without falling asleep, I think you deserve to know the secret to making money on your blog without feeling icky, or being 'salesey' and I'm going to tell you how (hopefully) you can make some cash today!
It's really simple actually. If you provide value to people and you 'sell' something that genuinely improves the lives of your readers, then it's a win - win situation.
The best way to do this (I've found) is to offer, free money as in found money.
Like, woah, I know you're thinking it's nuts that you can make money by offering free money, but let me explain. There's a lot of referral/affiliate programs out there that reward you for sending potential leads their way. Many of these programs are free to join and actually offer the customer an awesome perk. Here's a few examples:
Ebates is a cashback website that allows users to earn a small percentage of their online purchases back as free cash. When you refer someone to Ebates, you get $5 after they make their first online purchase (and often there's extra for referring more, like a bonus $50 for referring two friends). It costs nothing to join, and your readers would be getting free money back with shopping they'd do anyway. Crazy win.
AirBNB is one of my favourite travel websites, and is often a much cheaper/homier alternative to hotels and even hostels. When you refer someone to AirBNB, they get a $50 discount off their first stay, and you get around $25 in AirBNB credit for referring them. Not exactly cash, but just as good when you travel often like I do :)
VaroBank There're also banks like Varomoney.com/NstaCPUBiz for modern living they'll give you and me $5 if you open an eWallet and checking account, we both get another $5, if you put-in for Direct Deposit we both get $50, no fees banking. Highest rate savings account that works as hard as you do for you ~20x higher than a normal savings account.
They'll even cover you overdrafts w/ $100 no credit check.
Chime / Digit There is Chime Bank Chime.com/r/johnsilva9 which has similar arrangements as Varo ... Get digit.co/r/-yzje57CUr? make $5.00 (and I make $5) and refer a friend or two and get $500. Got 10 friends by next Tuesday ( and they have 10 friends ) we both get $500 (so do they).
Current There is Current Bank Current.app.link/AjZebyDdl3 they'll give you a virtual temp card for your google pay or paypal account etc. while you wait for either a plastic or metal debit card.

And so on and so forth... but I digress...
So here's your mission: pick one of those programs above [FYI, those are my affiliate links I provided] and just send it to a friend that you know will love it. Maybe your online shopping-obsessed friend will love Ebates, or your constant traveler friend could use an AirBNB discount code or some one that needs to keep track of their money and set up a budget, and save money. Don't feel weird about it because you're genuinely offering a valuable recommendation. If they sign up, then boom, that's money made.
Now imagine that concept, but on a large scale with ALL your readers. Pretty crazy earning potential...
So, I guess the moral of this novel/email is this: at the end of the day, you're going to make money from your blog by providing value to your readers. This can be as simple as giving them discount codes or linking them with FREE services that improve their lives (like in the examples above), or connecting them with paid products that will add value for them in some way (i.e. affiliate marketing).
