Hey,
So the other day you did something that made me feel pretty spectacular… You deemed me worthy of your shiny email inbox.
Now in 21st century terms, that's a big deal. As in, I'd like to think we're pretty much dating.
But before we make things official, I wanted to fully introduce myself and make sure we're a good fit. After all, nobody likes spam, and I wouldn't be doing either of us any favours if I just bored you with my messages and you let them drop to the depths of your inbox (next to the Viagra ads and Nigerian prince mail), right?
SO hi. I'm Christina, the voice behind Happy to Wander. In brief, I'm a clumsy, slightly awkward, very much self-deprecating blogger who is sick of bad blogging advice and most of all, boring blogs!
I want us to work together to make the blogosphere a better place.
Here's what I believe (and this might be kind of controversial): I genuinely feel that there's no such thing as too many blogs.
Perhaps over-optimistically, I believe that there's an audience out there for everyone, and the key to success is letting all your crazy colours shine through. Here's my pet peeve with blogs – they're starting to all sound the same… same content, same voice, gunning after the same sponsorships, and nah, I don't think that's the way it should be. On the contrary, I believe in helping bloggers find their unique voice and therefore their unique path to success.
Here's why: I started my travel blog back in 2014 on a whim, after my first backpacking trip in Europe. After dabbling with it on and off, I managed to land a summer job as a cruise photographer/blogger the next year. That summer changed everything. There was no looking back. I became obsessed with the idea of making travel my career, and did everything in my power to make that happen.
In the process, I devoted an absurd amount of time to learning what successful blogs have in common. Consistently, I found that people didn't want to part with their secrets. Like, there would be "helpful" posts out there, but none that dug into the dirty details of how anything actually got done. I got so discouraged because it seemed like everyone was moving forward and I wasn't. The secret to success I eventually discovered was absurdly simple: I had to embrace my crazy and stop writing like other bloggers. As soon as I began using my unique personality, readers began to respond, and just like that - my audience grew. Real talk, I felt like I had struck gold.
That's why I decided to create my own free blogging guides, ridiculously thorough ones with a dash of spice and sassy humour. It turns out, I wasn't the only blogger who felt fed up with the bad advice out there. Over time, I found myself with a new tribe of like-minded blogger friends who I now love to share all my successes and secrets with (you now included).
Thanks to the support of this tribe (and a lot more trial and error), I became a full-time blogger straight out of university a few months ago, without ever touching the 9-5.
I don't know everything. I want to make that clear. You will never catch me calling myself a guru or an expert. That's just not in my self-deprecatey genes. On the contrary, I believe in being relatable, honest and straight-up in everything I write. If all this sounds good to you, then I think we'll get along veeery well.
So, if you wanna groove with me, let's quickly make sure that we're on the same page. I believe my content will be most helpful to you if:
- You're willing to work hard and put in a LOT of elbow grease to reach your goals
- You're silly and don't mind a little cheesy humour
- You love to learn (and eat donuts in bed)
If we're not a good fit, no hard feelings – feel free to unsubscribe below.
If what I'm saying does resonate with you though... let's boogie! From now on, as one of my subscribers, you'll be receiving periodic updates from me when I have a new guide out, epic deals to share or maybe just because I want to say hi ;) Because blogging content isn't my main focus (I'm a travel blogger after all), I can't promise updates will be too frequent… but who knows, I'm full of surprises.
FYI: Being salesy is my worst nightmare. That's why 99% of my resources are free. I will never pressure you to buy anything, but I hope you won't hate me if I pass along some deals or discuss my services/products from time to time. Gotta keep that guac flowin' somehow.
So, are you still with me? I should seriously give you a medal.
Tomorrow, I'll be sending over some of my best blogging content so you get a feel for the way I write and teach. Until then, I hope your day is filled with plenty of sweets and magic.
Talk soon,
João
