Hi,

Are you in a state of confusion when it comes to so-called "social media best practices"?

When Social Media "Gurus" present you with conflicting opinions - often without the numbers to back them up - it can be downright frustrating.

If only someone would take the time to do proper testing - maybe even apply the scientific method - to determine what works and what doesn't in social media marketing…

So...

The good news!

I have teamed up with the social media management software folks at Agorapulse to answer some of your biggest questions.

They have recently launched a Social Media Lab which runs scientific experiments to test the myths, "what ifs" and conventional wisdom of social media marketing.

Here are a few of the riddles they've recently solved:

- Do 3rd party apps (like Hootsuite or Buffer) get less reach on Facebook?

- Does adding hashtags on Facebook increase reach and engagement?

- Should you tweet with images or Twitter Cards to get more clicks?

I recently contacted the folks at the Lab to tell them how much I loved their experiments and I got a pleasant surprise. They generously proposed to run experiments for me - at no cost!

I immediately thought I can't keep this just for myself and asked them if they would be OK to run tests for YOU, my beloved readers.

They said YES!

Best of all, they've turned this into a fun contest.

So I'd like to invite you to think about a burning social media question that keeps you up at night.

If you need food for thought, check out what the Lab has been doing here: https://www.agorapulse.com/social-media-lab (Good stuff, isn't it?)

OK, got your question?

Great!

Then pitch your experiment idea in the Social Media Lab contest!

Just fill out this brief Google Form: https://goo.gl/forms/ThoFDhFUf3bSFwqz1

If the Lab chooses your winning idea, they'll run an experiment on your behalf.

Finally, no more lost sleep over that unsolved social media riddle.

Best of all, you'll also get a brand mention and backlinks when the Lab writes up the results.

Here's hoping they choose your pitch!

Best,

John S.
