| | | Hi again,
In today's email, we are going to take a look at what to do after you receive your new credit card in the mail. If it hasn't arrived yet then you might want to put this email aside until it does.
As I mentioned in my last email, credit cards are by far the most effective way to earn cheap travel because they allow you to earn frequent flyer miles for every dollar that you spend on them.
Combine those miles with the miles earned from the sign-up bonus and you have an opportunity to earn a TON of frequent flyer miles simply by signing up for a card.
Unfortunately, this is where many of my readers quit.
They quickly browse over the material that I send them, get excited about the possibility of free travel, sign up for one credit card, and then DO NOTHING!
They expect that everything will just fall into place after doing 10 minutes of work.
But YOU are different. You have been thinking about that dream destination of yours and are willing to put in the work to get there.
This brings us to the final step of learning how to travel the world for next to nothing.
| | Step 4: Use Your Credit Card for Smart Spending
|
| There are 3 major categories that fall under this step.
1. Meeting the Minimum Spending RequirementAs I mentioned in my last email, most rewards credit cards require you to spend a certain amount of money before you can earn the points from the sign-up bonus. This is called the minimum spending requirement and it is the most important component of smart spending.
Failing to meet the minimum spending requirement in time means that you won't receive the sign-up bonus and therefore cannot book a trip to your dream destination.
So if you take nothing else from this email, make sure that you meet your minimum spending requirement.
(Here's a simple way to use your credit card to pay ANY bill, and earn points for doing so)
2. Using Your Card for Everyday Purchases From this point forward you should use your credit card for every purchase that you make (as long as you are not charged a fee to do so). This will allow you to earn frequent flyer miles for the money that you are already spending.
Spending rewards are not as lucrative as credit card sign-up bonuses but they can certainly add up over time.
3. Category Spending Lastly, many rewards credit cards offer bonus miles for any money that you spend in certain categories.
For example, the Chase Sapphire Preferred offers double points on any money spent on dining and travel. For that reason, I'm always sure to use it to pay for my dinners out with friends. (You can view all of our favorite credit card options on our page here.)
Be sure to pay attention to these bonuses so that you don't miss out on any potential points.
It's that simple!
