Hi!
Sounds like a pretty dramatic or traumatic title, right?
Well, it actually is true in so many ways.
Here's a quick little story that explains how one trip to Las Vegas changed my life forever.
When João and I were young parents we felt like we were always struggling to keep our heads above the water.
Not just with finances, but with life itself.
There was school for the kids, our real estate business, the blog, and just life.
Back then we dreamed of being able to take off to far off places, have some cool adventures as a family, and unwind and relax.
Each summer we looked forward to a weekend trip we would take to Las Vegas, for example. I was working in CA and JoAn was working FL.
Yes, Las Vegas, with a family. Most families goto Disney - land or World.
I get it. It seems a little strange.
Neither João or I gamble (maybe $20 in slot machine for me João might do $100, every once in a while), but we do like all the huge resort hotels and there really is a lot to do there as a family as long as you are doing it in the daytime.
At the time, I was blogging about saving money and starting to branch out into some travel & lifestyle content.
In fact, my blog was called FullPriceNever.com at the time.
I never gave any thought to "travel blogging" + Biz before, but I got this idea in my head that maybe if I emailed the Las Vegas Visitor Bureau before our trip that upcoming summer, they might have some businesses that would be willing to give us "comped" hotel rooms, tickets to attractions, or free meals at nice restaurants etc. in exchange for me writing about them on my blog.
What happened next, shocked me.
The visitor bureau was so cool and emailed all of their members about our upcoming trip and I was flooded with businesses that wanted to work with us!
The end result was that we had to extend our trip a few days because of all the activities and restaurants etc., that we lined up.
The really fun part was that we were treated like VIP's at almost all of these places.
The chef's would come out to our table and talk.
We received special seating at shows, and much more.
Joao and the older kids even 'zip' lined ( I passed on that experience 😂!)
We didn't get any comped hotel rooms on that trip, but we felt like we were on a dream trip in any event!
That simple trip to Las Vegas opened my eyes to a whole new world of opportunities and possibilities and changed my life.
The last six(6) years have been a whirlwind adventure for our family after that trip...
We've traveled all over the US and the World on 80+ travel blogging + biz trips.
This includes trips to Europe (twice), Hawaii (4 x), New York (3 x), Caribbean Islands (4 separate trips), Florida (4 x), Mexico (4 x), Alaska, Canada, and many more incredible places. Have been to sponsored trips or working vacations to Thailand, Philippines, S'pore, Wilhelmshaven Germany, Sophia-Antipolis France, Lisbon Portugal, Djibouti & Cape Verde Africa, Kuwait/ Iraq & Afghanistan and surrounding staging countries.
All these trips happened because of our blog + biz.
This has changed our lives in amazing ways.
Can you believe I used to be scared to fly?
I even figured out how to deal with that.
