Today, I want to take it back. Waaaaay back to when I first started M$$M.
First of all, I was not very good at this whole "personal finance sherpa" thing.
In fact, I was pretty terrible at it. I'm legitimately embarrassed by some of my earlier pieces of content.
Why?
Well... I was pretty narrow-minded.
I had paid off my $40,000 - 50,000 student loans by being ultra-frugal, and figured everyone else could just do the same thing.
So easy. Just spend less money like I did. (ugh)
So a lot of my stuff was pretty condescending and probably not very helpful.
Fortunately, I've grown up over the years and I'm at least self-aware enough to know that I didn't have everything figured out back then (and still don't).
Also, getting to know M$$M readers on a personal basis really helped me realize how fortunate I was in a lot of situations in my life.
I'll never forget the first time I realized that I needed to have WAY more empathy towards other people when I wrote content:
I had a single mom email me, and she said she was six figures in debt, had just been divorced, and couldn't make a single payment on any of her loans.
And... I was stumped. I had no idea what to tell her. It was humbling to say the least.
That's when a lot of what I thought about personal finance shifted.
Yeah, living below your means is important. But everybody can't just "cut back". That's a luxury in a lot of cases.
So I shifted my mindset to helping people earn more money in addition to living below their means.
In fact, I think that's what I'm probably best at out of everything that I do in my business now.
I legitimately love helping people earn more money.
That's why today, I want to talk to you about creating multiple income streams.
It's going to take some time to do of course, and there isn't a "get rich quick" solution out there.
(I mean it would be nice if there was, but I've tried plenty of stuff that turned out to be a massive waste of time.)
For example - I tried to start a clothing business to get rich, and I barely even know how to dress myself every day. My wife picks out my clothes. It's embarrassing because I'm 30 but it is what it is.
(Fortunately I've figured out some much better ways to make money on the side these days.)
So if you're interested in figuring out how to create multiple income streams...
... and you need some ideas for how to make it happen sooner...
- Jon-jon
P.S. - the clothing business was called "SoTex". Like SoCal, but for South Texas. It did not work out.
