Why Pre-Orders?
There are a few reasons to do pre-orders:
- You want to make money right now from a book that isn't out yet
- You want to make sure people who love your work get the book as soon as it's out ( or before )...
- You want to use the pre-order period to gauge interest in the title, track some conversion metrics, and test out different covers / copy, price points etc.
- You want to juice your launch-day sales stats by generating a ton of sales ahead of pre-launch/ launch
The latter is what we're going for. For pretty much every eBook store (except Amazon) all your pre-order sales are "stored up" and counted on the day of release, not on the day of pre-order.
So if you sell 100 pre-order copies, that'll count for 100 sales on launch day - boosting you up the charts for more organic reach.
As I mentioned though, this only works for Non-Amazon stores. But it's a great way to juice your results and "save up" some sales (especially if you want to hit a bestseller list) on those other platforms.
Which is ALSO why we haven't put it up for pre-order on Amazon. Because those pre-orders won't count on release day (much, anyway) and we want to get as high up in the charts as we can. More on that later. And get some personal testaments and reviews on the book, which help with sales.
So, in a nutshell, that's the plan leading up to the release date. And I'll be sure to let you know all the other weird and wonderful things, tips & tricks we'll be doing to get the book as many sales as possible (you'll be able to use a LOT of this for your own books, boxed-sets or not).
