RE: The +4 million + video views discovery

Hey,

Roger Wilco! I'm here 🙂
I hope you're crushing your week so far 💪

I want to share with you a valuable lesson that has saved me a ton of time, energy, and now that I think about it...

money too! 💰

A few years ago, when I had to create new video ads for Facebook I would block out entire days in my calendar to focus on recording stuff. 🎥

I was split testing 5 or 6 full video ads at a time to find a winner. I was doing really well in terms of ROI but I was also putting all my attention into it.

Until one day I received an email from a Facebook rep.

She reached out and asked me if I wanted to jump on a call and go through my ad account with her.

Most of the time Facebook reps don't teach you anything new, but I thought it would be good to be close with Facebook, so I accepted.

A couple of days later, I was on the call and the FB rep asked me:

"Wilco, do you know what's your average video watch time?"

Me: Hm... no, not really. I focus on sales and ROI.

"It's 6 seconds".

It got me thinking…

6 seconds...

...So I am blocking entire days to record super creative "out of the box" 4-minute video ads and people are just watching 6 damn seconds… Seriously!? 😓

That's when I realized that I should just focus on the first few seconds on my video.

The first seconds make ALL the difference.

And since then I changed the way I record video ads.

Instead of recording 5-6 completely different full video ads, now I only record one.

Why waste more time right?

After all, most people are just gonna watch the 6 damn seconds. 😅

So what I do is I focus on just split testing the first 15 seconds on the video.

The introductions.

Thus, I record 10 different introductions of roughly 15 seconds, and I paste the 3-4 minute "body section" of the video after it.

Does that make sense?

Basically, I end up having 10 different videos. Which in essence are exactly the same, just different intros.

I learned that's what makes the biggest impact. The first few seconds is what gets people hooked to keep watching the rest of your video.

This has allowed me to spin out more effective video ads over the last few years.

So if you want to save:

⏰ Time - scripting the video ad.
🔋 Energy - recording in front of the camera.
💸 And money - on a video editor.

Don't record different full video ads. Only have one "body section" and split test multiple intros. Alright? 🙂

Want to watch how I do this? Here's a video I recently posted on Youtube with some behind the scenes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1gsDRxfrR8M

On another note, I am thinking of sharing with you my proven template for video ad scripts on Thursday.

I have used it for years on our best performing ads. It engages viewers in a way that gets them to take action.

We have millions of views on my video ads.

Would you like to have the templated script?

If we get enough demand for it you'll have it on Thursday.

Reply and let me know.

Talk soon,

~João
