I'm currently writing this email from a flight bound for Montréal! I'll be spending the next week in snowy, beautiful French Canada to celebrate Carnaval with some girlfriends, one of the largest winter festivals in the world.
This makes me giddy for a lot of reasons. First, I get to eat a truly horrifying amount of poutine and maple syrup. Second, despite living in BC, I grew up going to French immersion schools where Carnaval was a big freaking deal. Every winter for 8 years of my life, I would await the arrival of the snowman mascot named Bonhomme, who would arrive on a red fire truck to the delight of all us puffy marshmallow children. We'd spend a week playing traditional games, learning the folk dances and just living 👏🏼 it 👏🏼 up! I first went to the real Carnaval 6 years ago (you can read about it here) and it was truly the most wonderful display of shameless Canadian-ness you could ever witness. I can't wait to show you!
