Fwd: Things you can negotiate that aren’t monetary

The other day we were reading an article from the Washington Post highlighting the 1 million full-time RVers out there and how that trend is continuing to grow (this article is from 2018 and the trend has definitely continued!).

Which is wonderful news!

But (as many of you have probably seen) this massive influx of new RVers is starting to cause other issues throughout the RV landscape beyond crowded campgrounds and national parks.

The simple fact is, dealers and service centers are overwhelmed with services, fixes, updates, repairs, and recalls.

Most often when you are in need of service or have a problem (and all RVs eventually have problems) there aren't enough RV technicians to quickly service your RV and get you back on the road.

I know some people that have reported waiting weeks or even MONTHS just to get their RV looked at, let alone fixed. This is especially true when taken to a different dealer than the one they purchased from.

Now that we know the problem, what can we do about it?

Well, here's one thing to keep in mind if you're buying a new or used RV from a dealer.

During the negotiating process make sure to ask these questions:

  • Does this include a service or maintenance package?

  • Will you service this RV quickly if problems pop up (how can you be assured)?

  • What is your typical turnaround time for RVs that come in with problems?

  • What incentives are you willing to include with this RV? This could include:

    • Service and maintenance discounts

    • Free oil changes for an extended period of time

    • Winterizing/de-winterizing discounts

    • An extended warranty

And of course, get them down in writing!!

Then, if/when you have problems, you can hold them accountable to what you negotiated for your RV maintenance.

There is nothing more frustrating than having a broken unit and waiting on it for weeks or months to get back on the road again!

Especially, if you have trips and commitments planned out.

Negotiating preferential RV service/maintenance agreement when you purchase your next RV allows them to give you added value without having to reduce the selling price of the unit further.

This is a win/win for everyone and is another way to sweeten the pot for you and get you back on the road quickly if anything were to arise.

The above example is just one of the many RV buying tips that we highlight and recommend in our RV Buying Secrets guide and this is one of many small pieces that you NEED to understand before buying an RV.

Just one tip like this can save you thousands of dollars over the lifetime of your rig and lots of MISSED TIME on the road.

That's why we recommend going into the buying process with a plan.

When you're buying an RV, having a solid plan makes it much easier to make a good, educated decision on what the right RV is for you.

A plan lays out the exact steps to take from an idea of the RV Lifestyle to you driving home in the perfect RV for you.

This is why we put the RV Buying Secrets guide together.

We wanted to take the mystery out of the process and give you EXACTLY what to do, ask, look for, and when to do all of those things.

Right now, in Jan/Feb it is peak RV buying season. And because of that - we want to get this guide into as many of your hands as possible, so until TONIGHT (midnight EST Friday, 1/17), you can get our RV Buying Secrets guide for just $20 (which is 80% OFF our list price!).
