Alright I'm going to peel back the curtain for you today.
Truth be told, I was going to send you a blog post about travel insurance companies.
But... I've changed my mind.
Don't worry, I'll tell you why. I'm sure you're shooketh that you won't be reading about travel insurance options right now.
Time will heal that wound. It will be alright. Trust me!
The reason I'm not sharing that post with you is actually pretty important to me.
I know that most of the time I send you funny emails because that's just the style I typically like to write in these days, and I also like to *attempt* to make personal finance fun.
But sometimes... this money stuff hits close to home.
One of the things I was going to share with you in the insurance post was that my wife and I actually bought travel insurance for a trip we took to Jamaica.
And unfortunately while we were there, my father-in-law passed away.
He had been sick for a long time with a disease called Inclusion Body Myositis, and my wife and I had lived at her parents' house and helped out while he was going through this whole thing.
So even though we knew he was really sick, we weren't quite expecting him to go so soon.
It sucked. Not really much sugar coating I can do there. We were stuck in a foreign country and couldn't leave until the next day to get back.
It was probably the most helpless I've ever felt tbh.
(On a side note - the travel insurance actually proved to be useful and they cut us a check for the missed vacation etc., but by the time I got to thinking about that whole situation, I just didn't really feel like emailing you about something trivial like that.)
So instead, I'd like to share something else with you.
It's actually the piece of content on M$$M that I'm most proud of in my years doing this.
It was the first thing I wrote after my father-in-law passed away, and I think it's probably the best thing I've ever written.
It's just... raw. I don't know. I wrote exactly what was on my mind, even if it would make some people a little mad.
It's several years old now and a lot of things have changed in my life since I wrote it (and honestly I edited some of it because my goodness I used to be edgy for no reason), but I think the overall message is something you need to hear even if you don't necessarily agree with everything I have to say.
