Success at Blogging w/ No Niche

There is so much information out there about blogging. But one question that seems to come up all the time is: do I HAVE to have a Niche? Is it okay to not have a niche blog? First of all, what is a niche blog anyway?

A “niche blog” is a blog that is created with the intention of reaching a specific group and targeted market. It’s a blog that only focuses on one topic and only one topic,  such as vegan cooking, DIY/crafts, art or portrait photography, personal finance etc. Yes, it is true that blogging about one topic can and might bring you “success,” but why limit yourself, for example, will it make you happy? And aren't you typecasting or narrowing your potential and prospects. Instead of broadening you horizons, you're shrinking it.

If you want to blog without a niche, I’m a firm believer that it is possible.

This post is for all the bloggers out there who think they need to put themselves in a box in order to be successful or the contrary. On the other hand, I’ll be the bold one and say YOU DON’T NEED TO PUT YOURSELF IN A BOX. In fact there's no box. Standing out in the blogging world definitely takes hard work, this is one way to do it ...but you don’t need to compromise your passions, sincerity and authenticity to be successful.

To me, the most important aspect of any blog isn’t content, it isn’t social media stats or pageviews etc. You have to want to blog. You have to enjoy the process and continue to want to blog. Otherwise, you’ll get bored and sick of blogging. If you don’t love it, you’ll quit. It's all consuming so you'll burn-out.

Whether you have a niche blog or not, you have to care about your blog. Many claim that in order to be a successful blogger (however you define that) you need to first have a niche.
