Hey!

Affiliate marketing is my favorite way to make money online with my blog. Affiliate marketing is great for many reasons, as you will read below.

1. Affiliate marketing is somewhat passive income.

Last month, I earned over $100,000 through affiliate marketing on Making Sense of Cents.

I love affiliate income because it can feel quite passive. You can create just one blog post or social media post, and potentially earn money from it years down the line, as long as you maintain it and keep generating traffic to it. With affiliate marketing, I can enjoy life more and know that I am still able to earn a great living promoting products that I use and enjoy.

But, It's not entirely passive. You will need to build a following, publish content consistently, built trust, and more. You can earn income from one affiliate link or one blog post for a long time, with little work needed to maintain it.

2. There's less work than creating your own product.

Affiliate marketing isn't easy, but there are things you don't have to worry about when comparing affiliate marketing versus creating your own product.

You don't have to ship anything, create the product, handle cancellations, manage customer service, and more. Yes, you will have to build your following and earn your readers' trust, but it can be a great way to increase your income, especially if you already have loyal followers.

3. You can get paid for promoting products you believe in.

I'm sure there are many products that you love. So, why not get paid for telling others about them?

Plus, if you truly enjoy a product, it will be easy to promote. You'll already know everything about the product and you'll have no problem being enthusiastic about it. If the product has helped you, it will probably help others as well, and people will appreciate your honest review.

4. There are many options for products to promote.

There are so many different products, services, and companies to promote. There's something for everyone!

Products you could promote to your following include:

Financial companies
Cell phone apps
Digital products, such as online courses, ebooks, and more
One of the millions of items on Amazon
Travel booking websites
Blog-related products, such as website design, website hosting, and more
Clothing
Home decor
Craft items
Outdoor gear such as bicycles, tents, backpacks, and more

5. You can work from anywhere.

One of the best benefits of affiliate marketing is that you can do it from anywhere. As long as you have a loyal following (even if it's just a few people), a laptop, and an internet connection, you can grow your affiliate income well into the future.

Look - I know you're concerned. And you're right, too.

I usually wait to reveal the blog post topic until AFTER I've entertained you with my unique brand of sarcasm and corny dad jokes.

However... today is different.

Why, you ask?

Well, the last time I emailed you, I may or may not have made it seem like my wife was divorcing me in the subject line.

You may remember it - "How I'm handling my wife leaving me."

And truth be told, I'm slightly offended by what happened after I sent that email.

It was the most opened email I've had all year, and I had to sacrifice my marriage to make it happen.

Now my wife DID go see the new Avengers movie without me, which is almost grounds for divorce, but she has enough good qualities to make it through that particular form of betrayal.

We have a very happy marriage to my knowledge (minus the Avengers fiasco). Things are good.

So now that we've cleared all of that up, let's move on...

Today, I want to talk about making more money.

Because as much as I'm all about lowering expenses to pay off more debt or invest more...

... the truth is that making more money accelerates the whole process.

And today, in 2019 - there are a crap-ton of ways to make money on the side (legally I might add).

In order to create the most compelling, responsive and profitable advertisements, you need to utilize Facebooks option to heavily target and tailor your advertisements based on your target market.

With facebook, you can set your ads up so that they appear only to specific people, based on age, location, gender, interests, hobbies or even based on the groups they have joined within the Facebook community.
You will want to conduct market research so that you can accurately define your target market and develop advertisements that target specific segments of your market.

Using the internet as a way to help you build your business, whether it’s an online or offline business, is an extremely cost effective technique. When it comes to mass email marketing you can literally reach hundreds of thousands of potential customers all with the click of a button and with very little overhead (just the price of your internet connection and website hosting costs). The low cost of this type of advertisement had a downside, companies started sending out millions of messages to unsuspecting email recipients who then started complaining about spam – unsolicited bulk commercial emails.

The rocketing number of spam emails that were being sent out created a back lash from the public which eventually led to new laws to prevent the abuse of the email message system, the CAN SPAM laws. These laws basically state that you can’t send out a lot of emails to random email addresses. In order to be in compliance with the law, and not be accused of spamming, there are a few things you need to do:


  1. Your email message must have an accurate ‘from’ heading where you put in your name or the name of your company.
  2. The subject line on your email must be accurate and relate to the actual content of your email.
  3. As the sender you must provide an actual physical address for you or your company.
  4. Make sure to clearly label your email if it contains adult content.
  5. You cannot have a false header on your email.
  6. You must provide a clear, and free, link for the recipient to ‘un-scubscribe’ and if they click on that link they should immediately be removed from your email list and you should never send them another email.
  7. Having an ‘opt-in’ list is probably your very best defense against being accused of spam. This method will encourage your website visitor to sign up to receive your emails. 


They are giving you permission to send them emails. In order to get them to sign up to your list you can offer them an incentive such as a free report or a multi part mini-course that they will receive over a period of a week or so. Whatever you offer them to get them to sign up, make sure it has real value to your subscriber. Take a little time and develop a report that has some real value and substance to it. These are the basics of the law.

I’m not an expert or a lawyer so make sure you take a little time and learn all the ins and outs of the CAN SPAM law so that you can make sure your company is in compliance. Don’t let the new laws scare you off from using mass email marketing since it can be a very effective marketing tool for your business. If you take the time to find out what all the regulations are and then you follow them, you will be in compliance and you will be able to add a lot of customers to your business which will eventually lead to a lot more sales, and that’s what we all want.

Google knows everywhere you go — here’s how to stop it from tracking you and delete the logs

Here’s how to do that.

Google knows a lot about you and, if you use Google Maps or other Google apps, it stores a copy of everywhere you go. I recently performed Google’s “Privacy Checkup” to learn a bit more about what it knows about me, and was pretty surprised at the level of detail it had on my exact locations.

I picked a random date: April 16, 2019. It knew everywhere I went, including that I took Interstate 95 to our office in northern New Jersey and that I arrived at 7:58 a.m. It knew that at 1:02 p.m. I drove to Jersey City and took a train in to Manhattan to the New York Stock Exchange before returning home at 4:38 p.m. And it has a copy of the pictures I took at each location.

It’s a creepy level of detail.

Google says it uses location history to “create a private map of where you go with your signed-in devices even when you aren’t using a specific Google service.” It also says the “map is only visible to you.” The data, it says, provides “improved map searches and commute routes, as well as helping you to rediscover the places you’ve been and the routes you’ve traveled.”

I don’t really care about that information. I know the roads I drove on April 16, and I can’t see any reason why Google should store it, even if it’s only for my use. I never know who might be able to access that data, even if Google promises it’s private.

You can stop Google from storing your location history and delete what it has already stored. Here’s how.

Google keeps a creepy amount of information on where you’ve been.


    First, go to myaccount.google.com/privacycheckup. This is a good page to bookmark, since it gives you granular control over lots of privacy settings.

Next, scroll down to “Location History” and choose “Manage Location History.”
    This is where you’ll see everywhere you’ve been. It’s a freaky level of detail.

Tap “Manage Location History” at the bottom of the screen again.
    Toggle the button to turn off Location History.

To delete your history, do this:

    Tap the settings button on the “Location History” map.
    Select “Delete all location history.”

Turn off the option that allows Google to track your location history.


That’s not it, though. There's more...

Google will continue tracking your location unless you also turn off a separate “Web & App Activity” tracker. Google says it tracks your location from apps to provide “better recommendations, and more personalized experiences in Maps, Search, and other Google services.”

Turn off the option that allows Google to track your web and app activity.

To turn off web and app activity, do this:

    Go to myaccount.google.com/activitycontrols
    Turn off the “Web & Activity” toggle.

Yes, you read that correctly. It's true. It came as a shock to me too.

My wife, Coral, told me that she was going on a weeklong trip to California yesterday, and I had totally forgotten about it. I had no idea she was going.

Oh..."The Run-away Bride." ...And like a woman she says one thing and does another, her last posts on fb were in Chicago area... Wheaton IL ...that was years ago, now she's back...

Yep... she sold house, took a paid for Silver '98 'stang Convertible ( traded-in for a Chrysler Sebring Touring car at Enterprise (value $2,000) ), $10k, daughter, packed up and got into the wind...

This is the 2nd time... the 1st time, when I caught up with her in Orlando FL I asked, her "Where did you get the money to move 1,500 miles from Nashua NH?" She said, "I hit the Lottery!" (LOL)... In addition, I got sued for child support (20% of income)...

That'll teach me to come and visit from my overseas biz venture??!!!

Her rude and immature text(s) read, "I can't wait for you to die." ..."Let me do this, while I'm still young!?" Something about, a "better opportunity (in Chicago)." ..."Libel for divorce, coming and FL Child Support Enforcement."

What's odd is OHA is missing $400k and Chicago Housing is missing $1MM... and guess who they blame... the accountants and she's one of 'em...  enough said...

Wow. Just wow. How dare you put that bad juju on me right now. That's the last thing I need in my life.

Anyway, the problem with my wife leaving for a week is that I have zero to little actual life skills when it comes to taking care of myself.

I legitimately do not know how to turn the dishwasher on.

Yes, I wash dishes all the time and load the thing, but Coral presses the buttons to make it go vroom vroom.

Also, we have these cats that I don't know how to care for. I always assumed that they just kinda... survived. That's what cats are supposed to do.

Now don't get me wrong - my wife has tried to prepare me for these moments when she isn't here.

But... my training only lasts so long, you know?

By Wednesday, I'll be in full-on bachelor mode, and by Saturday we will be deep into caveman territory... In my man cave ...Neanderthal, style.
