Hi,

What's the difference between a course that changes lives and one that's a complete waste of time, money, and energy?

The strategy it was built on.

And I bet you've had a crappy learning experience (or two) also.

Online courses can be life-changing, but building one involves much more than unloading your expert knowledge on film and throwing in a few worksheets. It means:

- Listening to the market

- Providing what people want and need

- Actively gathering feedback for improvements

- Pivoting or even abandoning your first idea if it's not working for students (or for you!)

These are pieces of the strategy my friend Danny teaches in his training and coaching program, the Course Builder's Laboratory.

His program has walked thousands of students through the process of launching and scaling their very first course, even when they didn't have an idea or audience.

Danny's strategy works.

And when you partner it with the unprecedented level of ongoing coaching and support Danny's team provides, you're guaranteed to launch and grow a profitable course.

It's not the typical "support" most courses include, which is often just an email address or private Facebook group.

Danny's students actually get their coach's phone number!

I mean, who does that?

I've never seen a course that includes this level of commitment to student success:

- you're guaranteed as much help as you need to create and sell your course

- spots in the program are limited, so that the expert coaches can give each student enough time and attention to ensure you launch your course with great results

- you can only begin the training on certain dates (currently Oct. 1, Nov. 15, and Jan. 1)

If you have a course in you...

...and you want the strategy and support to launch within the next few months...

...then go learn more about the Course Builder's Laboratory here.

I can't wait to hear about what you create following Danny's proven course building process!

My thanks in advance for your consideration, time and attention.

Hi ,

Coming up with blog post ideas is hard when you have a blank canvas.

Where do you start?

Firstly, you need to make sure you are crystal clear about the overarching niche/industry/topic area you are covering. Is your blog about vegan cooking recipes? Or is it about road cycling? Or maybe it's about Labradors?

Picking (and sticking) to a narrowly focused area is critical to the success of your blog. So start by determining what that is for you.

Once you have that nailed down, use these resources to come up with blog post ideas and you'll never be staring at a blank canvas again!

Fwd: Why being a successful blogger has nothing to do with writing?

Subject: Why being a successful blogger has nothing to do with writing?

Hi ,

Ok, so you've set up your hosting, picked a theme for your WordPress site, and come up with a list of topics to write about… What next?

Now it's time to start writing.

Writing can be a daunting adventure for many people. In fact, it was once upon a time for me too.

I remember when I first started blogging, I wasn't a writer in the traditional sense by any stretch. I just shared my thoughts, emotions, tips, tactics, and inspiration in a format that people could digest. It turns out they liked it.

You don't have to be a masterful writer to start and run a successful blog. Blogging is therapeutic. It's an outlet. A way for you to share and connect with the (believe it or not) millions of other people out in the world who are just like you. You just haven't discovered each other yet!

But, if you are still daunted by the task of writing a blog, here is a 3-part formula you can follow for making every blog memorable:

  • Write a mind-blowing headline that entices people to click and read your blog when they discover it.
  • Hook readers in with short, punchy sentences, storytelling, and emotive language.
  • Keep people engaged with visuals such as screenshots, infographics, videos, image quotes, and GIFs.

A Radical New Plan to Upend the World Wide interWebs.

Tim Berners-Lee tells us his radical new plan to upend the World Wide interWebs
With an ambitious decentralized platform, the father of the web hopes it’s game on for usurping corporate tech giants like Facebook and Google...

-- Tim Berners-Lee tells us his radical new plan to upend the World Wide Web

Last week, Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web, asked me to come and see a project he has been working on almost as long as the web itself. It’s a crisp autumn day in Boston, where Berners-Lee works out of an office above a boxing gym. After politely offering me a cup of coffee, or tea and crumpets he leads us into a sparse conference room. At one end of a long table is a battered old laptop covered with stickers. Here, on this computer, he is working on a plan to radically alter how all of us live and work on the interwebs.

“The intent is world domination, in a nutshell,” Berners-Lee says with a wry smile. The British-born scientist is known for his dry sense of humor. But in this case, he is not joking. Thos is no joke.

This week, Berners-Lee will launch Inrupt, a startup that he has been building, in stealth mode, for the past nine months, or so. Backed by Glasswing Ventures, its mission is to turbocharge a broader movement afoot, among developers around the world, to decentralize the web and take back net neutrality, free trade, the collective intellect thereof and power from the forces that have profited from centralizing it. In other words, it’s game on for Facebook, Google, Amazon etc. For years now, Berners-Lee and other internet activists have been dreaming of a digital utopia where individuals control their own data and the internet remains free and open. But for Berners-Lee, the time for dreaming is over.

“We have to do it now,” he says, displaying an intensity and urgency that is uncharacteristic for this soft-spoken academic. “It’s a historical moment.” Ever since revelations emerged that Facebook had allowed people’s data to be misused by political operatives, and an epic data breach exposing 50 million users, Berners-Lee has felt an imperative to get this digital idyll into the real world. In a post published this weekend, Berners-Lee explains that he is taking a sabbatical from MIT to work full time on Inrupt. The company will be the first major commercial venture built off of Solid, a decentralized web platform he and others at MIT have spent years building.

A Netscape for today’s internet

If all goes as planned, Inrupt will be to Solid what Netscape once was for many first-time users of the web: an easy way in. And like with Netscape, Berners-Lee hopes Inrupt will be just the first of many companies to emerge from Solid.

“I have been imagining this for a very long time,” says Berners-Lee. He opens up his laptop and starts tapping at his keyboard. Watching the inventor of the web work at his computer feels like what it might have been like to watch Beethoven compose a symphony: It’s riveting but hard to fully grasp. “We are in the Solid world now,” he says, his eyes lit up with excitement. He pushes the laptop toward me so I too can see.

On his screen, there is a simple-looking web page with tabs across the top: Tim’s to-do list, his calendar, chats, address book. He built this app–one of the first on Solid–for his personal use. It is simple, spare. In fact, it’s so plain that, at first glance, it’s hard to see its significance. But to Berners-Lee, this is where the revolution begins. The app, using Solid’s decentralized technology, allows Berners-Lee to access all of his data seamlessly–his calendar, his music library, videos, chat, research. It’s like a mashup of Google Drive, Microsoft Outlook, Slack, Spotify, and WhatsApp.

The difference here is that, on Solid, all the information is under his control. Every bit of data he creates or adds on Solid exists within a Solid pod–which is an acronym for personal online data store. These pods are what give Solid users control over their applications and information on the web. Anyone using the platform will get a Solid identity and Solid pod. This is how people, Berners-Lee says, will take back the power of the web from corporations.

For example, one idea Berners-Lee is currently working on is a way to create a decentralized version of Alexa, Amazon’s increasingly ubiquitous digital assistant. He calls it Charlie. Unlike with Alexa, on Charlie people would own all their data. That means they could trust Charlie with, for example, health records, children’s school events, or financial records. That is the kind of machine Berners-Lee hopes will spring up all over Solid to flip the power dynamics of the web from corporation to individuals.

A new revolution for developers?

Berners-Lee believes Solid will resonate with the global community of developers, hackers, and internet activists who bristle over corporate and government control of the web. “Developers have always had a certain amount of revolutionary spirit,” he observes. Circumventing government spies or corporate overlords may be the initial lure of Solid, but the bigger draw will be something even more appealing to hackers: freedom. In the centralized web, data is kept in silos–controlled by the companies that build them, like Facebook and Google. In the decentralized web, there are no silos.

Starting this week, developers around the world will be able to start building their own decentralized apps with tools through the Inrupt site. Berners-Lee will spend this fall crisscrossing the globe, giving tutorials and presentations to developers about Solid and Inrupt.

“What’s great about having a startup versus a research group is things get done,” he says. These days, instead of heading into his lab at MIT, Berners-Lee comes to the Inrupt offices, which are currently based out of Janeiro Digital, a company he has contracted to help work on Inrupt. For now, the company consists of Berners-Lee; his partner John Bruce, who built Resilient, a security platform bought by IBM; a handful of on-staff developers contracted to work on the project; and a community of volunteer coders.

Later this fall, Berners-Lee plans to start looking for more venture funding and grow his team. The aim, for now, is not to make billions of dollars. The man who gave the web away for free has never been motivated by money. Still, his plans could impact billion-dollar business models that profit off of control over data. It’s not likely that the big powers of the web will give up control without a fight.

When asked about this, Berners-Lee says flatly: “We are not talking to Facebook and Google about whether or not to introduce a complete change where all their business models are completely upended overnight. We are not asking their permission.”

Great Tips For Getting Your Allergies Under Control

If you are one of the millions of individuals suffering from allergies, your day to day life might feel miserable. It's that time of the year again, for me it's Spring and Fall. You are constantly dealing with coughing, sneezing, burning and watery eyes. It is not comfortable, and it is not fun. In this article, we will discuss some great methods that you can use to find relief from these annoying symptoms.

Skip intense workouts, or long walks during allergy season. When you are in an intense workout session, you are likely to breathe more deeply, and more quickly. That means you are probably going to inhale much more pollen than usual. Which means you have a greater chance of experiencing allergy symptoms.

Going for a long walk or run around the neighborhood or to that library that's open on Sundays, may make you feel wonderful and alive, but pollen and spores in the air can quickly spoil the experience. This is especially true if you are already fatigued or are recently recovering from an illness. In response to these conditions your immune system is compromised, which makes you far more likely to experience a severe allergic response to allergens.

If you have at least one known food allergy, there is a fair chance that you may be allergic to other foods in the same group. For example, you may be allergic to crustaceans, shellfish or both. Always exercise caution when trying new foods for the first time, especially if you have ever experienced an allergic reaction.

Depending on the severity of your allergies, you may want to consider getting rid of your pets. While most people that have pets, don't want to, they may have to. If you don't have a pet you can eliminate the buildup of dander and pet hair, which make allergies worse.

People who have severe allergic reactions need to call 911 when they feel the symptoms coming on. This is the best and quickest way to get help and ensure that you do not end up in a more critical condition. Allergic reactions can come on fast, and some can even lead to death, so take the proper measures to get help quickly.

Do not have a lot of plants in your home if you suffer from allergies. Not only do many plants trigger allergy symptoms, but they also tend to collect a lot of dust and could even develop mold. If you want to have plants, keep them in an outdoor garden and wear a mask when caring for them.

Too many people let their allergies limit what they can do. This doesn't have to be the case. There is no reason to stop taking those hikes you used to love or stop playing games with your kids out in the yard. Fight those allergies and get a good handle on them. Make an appointment with an allergist and figure out the best treatment that will help you the most.

In your yard, you should keep your grass as short as possible to help relieve seasonal allergy symptoms. This will help minimize the amount of grass pollen in the air inside your home. If possible, you might want to consider paying someone to cut your grass so you are not exposed to the pollen and dust while cutting your lawn.

Remove houseplants from your home. Houseplants can be a breeding ground for mold that triggers allergies. If you must have houseplants in your home, remove any leaves that have mold on them. You should also be sure that you avoid letting water sit in the tray after watering your plants.

Allergy sufferers like you are always looking for ways to find relief. There are many methods available, but it is difficult to decide which ones will work for you. The idea is is to build up your immunity and you immune system, against allergens, for example get raw honey form your local beekeeper, and use it on toasted bread, and general cooking, it's ingestion will help you with building your immunity to the allergens that relate to the air you breath in your neighborhood. For the same effects, there are teas designed and developed to help you with certain fruit allergies like those for berries. Consult you doctor and a herbalist. This article has discussed some proven methods, and explained how they can help you to find relief from your allergy symptoms. Use them and start to feel better today!

Fb.com Data Breach -- What To Do Next

Facebook Data Breach -- What To Do Next

I’m a freelance cyber security journalist covering USA, EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa).

ANKARA, TURKEY – SEPTEMBER 5: A person holds a mobile phone displaying Facebook application, on September 5, 2018 in Ankara, Turkey.

The other day, Facebook notified users of a massive data breach affecting over 50 million people. The breach had taken place three days earlier, on the afternoon of 25 September 2018.

The social media giant says it doesn’t know exactly what kind of information has been compromised. However, in an updated statement yesterday, it did admit the hack affected those who use Facebook to log into other accounts by way of a function 'View As.'

How do you know if you’ve been impacted?

If you’ve been affected by the breach, Facebook logged you out of your account yesterday. Chances are someone perhaps posted an inappropriate picture and you got admonished for it and upon inspection of you 'Security and Privacy' menu items under 'Account,' others in various states have "logged into" your account. The social network said it would also notify these people in a message on top of their News Feed about what happened.

However, an important thing to note: If you were logged out, you weren’t necessarily breached. Facebook has also logged out everyone who used the ‘View As’ feature since the vulnerability was precluded as a “precautionary measure”. The social network says this will require another 40 million people or more to log back into their accounts, adding: “We do not currently have any evidence that suggests these accounts have been compromised, or any data stolen.”

Has the issue been fixed?

According to Facebook, yes. It believes it has fixed the security vulnerability, which enabled hackers to exploit a weakness in Facebook’s code to access the ‘View As’ privacy tool that allows users to see how their profile looks to other people, publicly, on the net.

Attackers would then be able to steal the access tokens that allow people to stay logged into their accounts. Then, Facebook admits, they could use these to take over people’s profiles.

Facebook is also temporarily turning off the ‘View As’ feature while it conducts a “thorough security and privacy review”.

What should you do if you’ve used Facebook to log in to other accounts/apps etc.?

Facebook has admitted this could be an issue, but it can be hard to know what you’ve logged into using your account. This information can be found in your settings. First, go to ‘Apps and Websites’, then ‘log in using Facebook’.

There you will be able to find all the apps you have used Facebook to log into. It’s a good idea to remove these, or reset the password to a new passord, even if you think you haven’t been impacted by the breach. If you have been affected, ofcourse, you’ll also need to change the passwords for those accounts, to be in the safe side.

What can you do to secure your Facebook account?

Facebook says there’s no need for people to change their passwords. However, there is no harm in doing so, especially if there's a breach – ensuring that your new password is secure and that you do not use it to log into other accounts, just yet. You could also log yourself out of Facebook, even if you don’t think you’ve been impacted, using the ‘Security and Login’ section under ‘Settings’. This lists the places people are logged into Facebook or your account specifically, with a one-click option to log out of all of them, immediately. People who’ve forgotten their passwords can access Facebook’s Help Center to reset and change password. If you have been compromised and your profile hijacked, you may have trouble changing passwords, you may need help from someone in facebook with console permissions and priviledges.

If you haven’t already, you should also enable two-factor authentication, which again can be found in Facebook settings.

Of course, you could also delete your Facebook account altogether.

Does this breach come under GDPR?

Many of the 50 million customers breached will reside in Europe, so their data does fall under the EU general update to data protection regulation (GDPR). We don’t know exactly what information has been impacted, if any – fines are applicable for sensitive and personal data such as credit card details, which Facebook initially said has not been affected. However, if attackers have accessed personal messages, all kinds of sensitive information could have been breached and therefore compromised.

As Facebook investigates the breach, it will be interesting to see the regulatory impact. The number of accounts impacted dwarfs that of British Airways at 50 million versus 380,000 for example, but the nature of the information accessed is important.

For now, users need to ensure their own security and privacy, is tight. Breaches are happening every day and it’s important to use strong passwords or pass phrases and two-factor authentication at a bare minimum.
